The nation’s capital makes for a perfect day trip from New York City. This compact, well-organized, one day trip makes the most of your time in the nation’s capital. Begin by driving south from New York City, along the East Coast states of Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland before arriving in the U.S. capital.

When you arrive, head straight to Capitol Hill, and explore the Capitol Building, along with the White House and other historical monuments. Add the Lincoln Memorial,  and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Lastly, include the Arlington National Cemetery on the Virginia side of the Potomac and you have yourself a full day of discovery.

Don’t head back to the Big Apple before grabbing a bite to eat at one of the city’s many eateries, like Clyde’s of Georgetown. High volume indeed, the place sees busloads of tourists,  yet it also attracts the locals. In addition to serving tavern staples, Clyde’s offers a few local and southern twists, like jumbo lump crab cakes, sliders and collard greens. Fine wines and craft-brewed beers are also served.
